Cosy wine bar with a well curated selection of excellent wines located in the basement of a historic building. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and, although we didn't eat here, the food looked good too. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

The restaurant is on the lower ground floor but we got a seat next to the windows so we had natural sunlight. For the starter I had wasabi cured salmon and my partner had pan seared scallops with hog pudding. Both were well presented. the salmon was lightly cured and orange worked surprisingly well with it. I guess it is still in the citrus family but a bit sweeter than lemon. I didn’t know what hog pudding was but was meaty and juicy and combined well with the sweetness of the scallops.

For starters, I tried the goat cheese pie and the chicken liver pâté with apple; both dishes looked and tasted fantastic. I had the pâté at The Ivy before, but it was clear that this one was of superior quality. Moving on to the mains, I ordered the steak and duck breast. Both were cooked to a perfect pink and tender texture, accompanied by thoughtfully chosen sides and sauces. The quality of the meat was truly Michelin-level. On my last visit, I opted for the cheese board for dessert, featuring a perfect selection of four cheeses sourced from Devon, along with a generous portion of fruit, crackers, and bread.
