We visited York for the weekend and visited quite a few pubs, this was our favourite! Proper old-skool boozer, great atmosphere with friendly staff. We visited in summer but the front bar has a fire which I bet is smashing in the winter!

our five-person family visited the royal oak for dinner and drinks and is very pleased with our experience. it is not a small offer to satisfy all of us, but the personal came through and delivered delicious food and drink and offered a comfortable atmosphere. we will certainly return.

The Christmas dinner was lovely! Only disappointment was the pig in blanket being rather small. Also we went as an arranged private function and they told us the table numbers so I could arrange a seating plan based on peoples form responses. Annoyingly the table numbers were different when we arrived so some people ended up not sat in their preferred place. Ver carta

I called here today when I walked the walls. the burger was very tasty, like the pommes. it is a four-star score because the burger was only warm, instead of hot. Maybe I'm picky, but there we are. but we were served by a beautiful dame who had a great knowledge of the history of the pub, the space we had eaten from the year 1432 and from york in general. a very beautiful pub

we love this pub. the pub has 3 rooms in the ground floor with a coalfire each, so it is nice and sniff in winter, there is also a larger room in the upper floor. decor is beautiful. it is dog-friendly. the personal is always so friendly and welcoming. eating is nice, fresh and cooked to house, and very cheap, portions are also very generous. for all places they can go for eating in york, I recommend trying this place. we stumbled a few years ago randomly about it and every time we visit york this is where we go for dinner.

This is OUR local pub when we visit York. Right near our apartment. What we love is that there are lots of regular locals in...a sign of a good pub...some have been drinking here for 40+ years. The last time we went in for an afternoon quick half...lets just say it was 10 pints each later...fab afternoon and lovely customers both regulars and tourists. Lovely bar area...with open fire when it 's chilly...very quaint and always customers in to have great conversation with. Lovely lounge area too...and upstairs is where they serve the food. We had a Sunday lunch which was awesome with a massive fresh yorshire pudding. We have been in on quiz night which was great fun...and a few times when the... Ver carta
