"Family meal03/09/23 at The Hope Anchor pub, South Ferriby for a special occasion which was spoilt by the number of flies in the restaurant. I even had to ask a staff member if they had a fly swatter and they were going to fetch a fly zapper which never materialised. Whilst waiting for starters to arrive we had killed 3 flies. Starters were eaten off a slim piece of slate (as was the fish and chips main course) when a decent plate would have been better. I asked staff again if they had a fly swatter and another table was set up elsewhere in the pub, which was no different. Sat at the new table we killed a further 2 flies. The meal was spoilt by having to constantly bat flies out of the way, landing on our cutlery whilst trying to eat (had to grab spare from a neighbouring table). Main courses consisted of steaks, fish and chips and roast beef dinners with side dishes. Sadly, we could not eat all of the side dishes due to flies landing on them. The roast beef dinners were nothing special as the beef was chewy (I have cooked better myself) as was the steak on the bone but the fillet steaks and triple cooked chips were nice. It was not a pleasant dining experience at all and we declined to entertain dessert and any more drinks as we could not wait to leave. We would definitely not return or recommend this venue at all. Overall, very disappointed at what should have been a nice family occasion and the food was definitely NOT Michelin star quality."

I went to this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait over 50 minutes for our food to come out. The 30£ steak was chewy and barely edible, and some of the portions were really small. The rest of the food was okay. The restaurant also did not have a drink menu.

The menu at this restaurant is quite diverse, offering something for everyone. The food is of exceptional quality, with the Mac n Cheese being a standout dish. My son was particularly impressed with the fillet steak, which he thought was the best he had ever tasted. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. We will definitely be back soon.

Nice welcome from an over abundance of inattentive staff, decor better on the inside and quite relaxed for informal dining. Food on the good side of average but nothing to write home about, the non fussy one found the beef tough going. But beware, despite a website saying menu inclusive of vat, and our experience everywhere else, on getting home checked the bill and vat has been added as a separate item on top of the stated menu prices. Wonder how many people they catch out with this one. Certainly not returning

Wow what can we say, simply amazing! It wasn't our first time although we have not been for a while but this was by far our best visit yet. We had the chateaubriand sharer and it was melt in the mouth delicious. The chips and onion ring sides were fantastic and the blue cheese sauce divine. My husband had a pudding and I an Irish coffee. The creme brulee was delicious and the coffee hit the spot perfectly. The service was brilliant and we can't fault Kieran and Megan in any way. We will definitely be back and sooner rather than later! Ver carta

I had a delicious meal at the Hope and Anchor. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu had a wide variety of options to choose from, making it difficult to decide. I ended up starting with the sardines, which were very tasty. The jospered bream for my main dish was exceptional, with a large fillet accompanied by delicious courgettes and a garlic dressing. I ordered chips on the side, but they were not necessary as the main dish was filling enough. I will definitely consider returning to this restaurant when I am in the area for work. The food was both good quality and reasonably priced.

We’ve had several meals at the Hope Anchor pub recently. We love the views out over the Humber, and beautiful sunsets if you are lucky! There are several dining areas in this popular gastro pub, but we prefer the conservatory, and the dining room overlooking the outside decking these give the best views over the water. The menu changes with the seasons, including “whole animal projects”. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for, and there is also a choice of seafood and fish if this is more to your taste. Prices are on the upper side, but the quality is good. Some people have said that portions are not generous but we haven’t found that.

We arrived for lunch and sat on the outside decking. Was a nice spot but looked very tired and in need of some maintenance, and weeding. The waiting staff were very good however we were disappointed to be told not everything was available on the menu in particular Oysters Mussels. The food came quickly but the lamb kofta was not cooked properly and raw in the middle. One of the chicken dishes was also slightly pink which was unappetising. The rest of the food was fine. We advised the waiter and he told the chef who sent his apologies about the kofta yet we were still charged full price! Overall, we came away feeling very disappointed by the food, given this is a ‘Gastro Pub’ with a price tag... Ver carta

Okay so on approach I was immediately struck by the Michelin signs which got me excited. The local ales on tap were a welcome entrance along with the very professional articulate french manager who made the experience that much more enjoyable. The interior of the restaurant was utterly gorgeous, warm and homely whilst retaining a high level of class. The menus was superb with something on there for absolutely everyone. If you wanted to go and spend on the lighter side there was food for you. If you wanted to spend more and have fresh oysters, lobster and (as recommend by my new favourite Frenchman) a duck shot that very day that he insisted he would have to eat himself if we didn’t take it w...

Recommend to us by our hosts at a nearby Airbnb.. we were visiting the area for a short break with our dog so it was important to find a restaurant that allowed dogs. Whilst understandably they don’t allow dogs in the main restaurant they do in the pub area of the restaurant. The table was very nice, the service excellent and the menu exactly the same as the main restaurant. We had starters, mains and desserts, the food was exceptionally good, the type of quality you pay dearly for in London. I had mussels to start which although easy to cook are often spoilt by overcooking, not these, perfect in a lovely broth. I then had the “Pig Project”, they do a lamb and a pig project where their aim i...

"Awful meal and even worse service. A place where the customer is always wrong! Cold food, undercooked naan breads (which were not eaten), tomato sauce rather than Indian curry with no spice or tasty, and a shortage of meat for a dish being charged at £14-16 per curry (without any extras). When this was brought to the attention of the lady front of house, she wanted to argue that the food wasn’t cold and the two naan bread were cooked. Shouting at us in front of her other paying customers. However neither naan bread had even a slice out of them, may as well have been raw dough. When you can see your fingerprint in the naan, you know it’s undercooked. She said that’s how they come. However we have eaten there a few times before so this wasn’t the case! No service, or at best slow service from start to end. And nobody came to check how our food was, (now I guess we know why) so my partner went to say something. We visited here after having a nice meal the last time but after the disgusting way the staff spoke to us, the terrible food and total lack of service, means that we will never come back. Never been spoken to like this from someone who is supposed to be employed for customer service, or at least supposed to try and make the customer happy. Being locals, she will lose out on the next 30 years of being our chosen local Indian and would rather go to Mumbai Lounge. Make sure you go somewhere else other than this place! Horrendous food and horrible service. Don’t visit Bengal Spice."
