"Bad birthday experience… came here on my lunch break for a birthday treat with my boyfriend. Waitress was uninterested from the minute we entered the building and almost seemed like she didn’t want us there. We ordered 2x spicy steak ciabattas off the lunch menu when this arrived, it was served in a small Brioche bun, not a ciabatta as stated on the menu. We paid an additional £2 supplement each for this particular lunch dish however, there were maximum 3 small slices of steak per bun, completely underwhelming. We ordered a side of peppercorn sauce to have on the steak ciabatta however, as it was served on a brioche bun, it was extremely soggy and fell apart in our hands. We were not made aware of the sandwich substitution when ordering or prior to the food being served. We tried to the get attention of staff to query this however, no one was around and as we only had limited time on our lunch break, we had to just eat the soggy, steak deprived bun. When queried this with the waitress, she advised ‘yeah, we’ve ran out of ciabatta so serving this instead’…….. we explained that if they had advised us of this prior, we would’ve ordered something else. She was not interested and walked away silent. A different member of staff approached us, they apologised and were nice enough however, excused the error by stating that a different table requested the brioche bun earlier and that’s why they had substituted it. That is all very good for them however, it is not what you have advertised and selling on your menu, nor were we made aware of the change at any point prior to the food being served. We are reasonable people and aware that things like this happen. However, £40 for a extremely tragic brioche bun, we’re left still hungry and disheartened. just be aware when ordering they may serve something completely different (p.s. no discount on the bill for being misssold an item off their menu and for their clear mistake)"

We came across a fantastic restaurant on our way back from a day out. The interior was beautiful, modern, contemporary, and comfortable. The menu offered a wide selection and the food we ordered was all delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were all friendly and attentive during our visit.

50th birthday celebration for hubby. The staff could not have been more helpful. Gave hubby a complementary glass of fizz, birthday card and balloons were on our table. Made his birthday lunch all the better. Food was amazing and portions were generous for the price. We both had the lunch special 2 course. We will definitely be back. Thank you all so much.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant with my cousin Doreen, and it was absolutely fantastic. The ambience was perfect, the service impeccable, but the food was out of this world. I have never tasted fish like the one I had here - so tender, flaky, and perfectly battered. My companions had the Brisket, which they said melted in their mouths. The desserts were equally delicious. I can't wait to come back again. A special thanks to Becci, the General Manager, Lisa, the Supervisor, Sarah, our server, and Shane, my favorite Chef.

Such a shame, this place looks great but shocking prices for what you get. Night didn’t start great as our party ordered fish and chips only to be told by the waitress who came back 10 minutes later that they don’t have any and to please choose something else off the menu! When you pay nearly £20 for a main meal, I would also expect my plate to be full. The gammon was minuscule being the same shape of a rasher of bacon just slightly thicker, and the chips were cold and soggy and sparse. Really disappointing chocolate fudge cake for dessert with the only fudgy part being the ganache in the top, the sponge was very dry and again £8 for a thin slice of cake with 1 small scoop of ice cream is te...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."

"Open since 1970 and located on Mardol, one of Shrewsbury’s oldest streets @thecurryhouseshrewsbury serves locally sourced ingredients married with traditional spices and chillies from the Indian subcontinent, a match made in heaven. 5 5 Recommended Price No better way to kick off proceedings but with popadoms, chutneys and fresh onion salad. On to appetisers and there are so many tempting dishes to choose with many of these exclusive to the curry house. Our first time trying Pani Puri. A sweet and spicy hot street food snack filled with chickpeas and tamarind sat on a bed of crunchy, nutty Bombay mix. With a building but pleasant heat, definitely something everyone should try. The quality and freshness of the seafood was exceptional. Spicy king prawns were huge and cooked to perfection. Charred on the outside for flavour but juicy and meaty. Trio of King scallops were beautifully tender and of a good size with sweetness from the tamarind liquor. Lamb rogan Josh tender lamb shoulder in a medium hot ginger tomato and onion sauce. A strong take on a traditional favourite of ours. Fresh from the Tandoor a generous mix of marinaded chicken, lamb, king prawns and a chargrilled lamb chop. The Tandoori deluxe massalla sauce was the perfect blend of sweetness melting into a subtle heat which brought the dish together perfectly. The curry house takes traditional dishes and flavours from the Indian subcontinent and elevates them to a level beyond expectations. Thank you for our invite to share the exciting menu created with passion and creativity.
