"The Glocke recently moved back to its original location (from across the road, which used to be the Krim) and it's been difficult to get a table ever since. Half of Trier is queuing up to see how the renovations have worked out... I finally managed to have a look myself as part of a work Christmas dinner. We were placed downstairs in the vaulted cellar - which is indeed magnificently restored. (BTW, there is no phone reception downstairs - at least not with my provider.) Given the acoustics of such cellars and the fact that it was full to the brim with other Christmas dinner groups, it was fairly loud. Upstairs looked very similar to what it used to be - particularly the part just when you enter the building. In addition, there is a new seating area that is presumably used for breakfast for hotel guests (not all of the rooms are ready yet, though).Food was decent (as usual) - it is hearty German fare and no gourmet food. Also, this is not the place to sample the highlights of local wine - go for the local Kraft beer instead.Service was really quite good, particularly given the masses of people to be attended to. However, there was a slight glitch with a vegan member of our group not getting vegan food. (If you want to have a vegan version of a dish, you have to make sure this is explicitly noted on the order - just asking them to remove everything non-vegan isn't enough as the cook may replace ingredients with other non-vegan items... But then again, this is probably not the best restaurant to go to as a vegan in the first place...)I'll be eager to try out the Glocke again in less busy times - but what I have seen so far suggests it is still a very good place to sample some decent German food."

was a busy evening in Trier, but we timed it right as a couple left so we grabbed the table quickly, the food we chose was typical for this region and was fantastic

We heard about this restaurant, so we gave us a try. We had a family dinner of eight persons. Portions were great. Quality excellent. Pricing reasonable. There is nothing more to add.

The Zur Glocke is as good as it gets; wonderful food and equally wonderful service. Choosing the right dinner spot can be so difficult; so happy we settled on Zur Glocke. It was a treat!

Visited for dinner after walking across Trier for several hours. Location is nice, just few meters off from busiest street. Service was quick, food arrived in a matter of minutes. Portions were great and price was reasonable. We could visit again. Ver carta

We were seated outsider on a very cosy terras, just next to the crowdy chopping street. Clean, cosy. Extremely friendly waiter. Excellent German food, the Moselfish were like sardines. Fine asparagus. Good wines, the Molitor blanc de noir was a fine discovery.

This restaurant is ideally located just off the main square and we really could not fault it. Portions are of a very generous size and the dishes we chose were all of good quality if not excellent. Yes you will get better food but pay more, however if like us you are visiting Germany for the first time and want to try local cuisine without having to break the bank then this restaurant is ideal. You can get a three course meal for about 25 euros.

The food is very nice, but in my 2 recent visits I got the impression that you should better not speak any exotic language there. They had taken my telephonic booking either. I have been twice there asked to settle my bill early (smth I have never ever experienced anywhere before): my impression is that if they are unable to identify your nationality, they believe you are less likely to be able to pay for your dinner? But the food is nice and there is plenty of space inside. Anyway, I believe they will be nice to the "large rich nations" so no worries if you belong to them. Ver carta

Have been visiting this place for 20 years but now seems to have taken a turn for the worst. The friendly helpful staff seem to have gone and the guy that screwed up our order in 2014 still works there and was unhelpful. The restaurant has moved back from across the road to its old location. Here may lay the issue that it attracted large volumes of people and parties that can't be fitted back into its smaller space. So that seems to be it for me onion soup will be off and that's it for friendly staff as management go up market away from the local German feeling of a tavern. Will give it another go in 2017 perhaps, but upsetting just the same that eating traditions are smashed.

We ate here on a Wednesday night. We didn't have reservations but had no problems getting seated. There was a hotel, now closed for renovation, across and down the street which used to house this restaurant. In fact the website for this restaurant uses a picture of the hotel. As a result we were almost fooled into thinking it was closed. Take note of the address as this restaurant is a few doors down and across the street from that hotel. The tables are nicely spaced allowing for privacy. The service is good. The wait staff is young and it gives the impression of a family business. They were very attentive. We tried the dumplings with bacon and apple sauce. They were almost a meal on their ow...
