"Went for the first time the other evening with friends for the one that is not a pasta lover and can't eat pizza due to a cheese allergy was wondering what I could eat (went for the 2 for 15.00 special offer which is pasta and pizza only) however on arrival, I decided to try a pasta dish (after checking no cheese in it which the waitress went and asked the chef) I went for the Linguini Pollo Funghi, we also ordered the Lasagne and 2 pizza's the Veg and Florentine All the people in the party was amazed at the size of the dishes and who lovely is all looked and tasted we will be booking again with more friends to try it"

"After the Head of Steam nearby stopped selling Kerb Edge burgers, I was unsure where to find a good burger. I was delighted when we stumbled upon this restaurant. It was quiet, just after work on a Friday night, and we perused the menu. I had heard about their “Gadgie Burgers” and decided to give them a try. We opted for a gadgie burger deal which included a burger, fries, and a beer for only £7, a much better deal than the nearby establishment's £17 for a burger and a pint! The food was fantastic - the burger was juicy, packed with bacon and cheese, and the sauce was delicious. The fresh lettuce, onion, and tomato added to the flavor. The chips were crispy, hot, generously seasoned, and plentiful. My partner even claimed it was better than Dope Burger, and I couldn't argue! It was the least greasy burger we've had and bursting with flavor. The staff, consisting of a chef and bartender due to the quiet evening, were friendly and accommodating. My partner enjoyed watching football on the large screen. We have already decided to come back next week, and I highly recommend others in the area to pay a visit as well!"

"I'd heard great things about this coffee shop so persuaded my friend to give it a try for our lunch. It was full and there were people waiting outside when we arrived. Rather than it putting us off and try elsewhere we thought if it's that good then we'll go back in an hour. So glad we did, we had a great welcome, a lovely big mug of coffee, the best toasties ever tasted with homemade coleslaw and salad, chips and a massive slice of homemade cake (had to bring it home, as full). The decor and friendly staff added to our very enjoyable visit and we will certainly visit again. Highly recommend and fully support independent businesses that care about you and their staff"

"Decided to go for a nice lunch out as weather was nice, walked into restaurant which was freezing (colder than what it was out side), we were seated directly in front of the open door and the draft was so cold. I asked for the door to be shut, I was told they can’t shut the door and we were told to move to the table behind, which was still in line with the door, defeating the object of moving. I asked to sit in the corner of the restaurant and was told no as it had to be a table of 2 we were seated at. I asked another member of staff to shut the door and they said no because it is too hot for the members of staff who were “running” around, even though it was really quiet. I explained that i don’t want to eat in a freezing cold restaurant that’s drafty as my food will get cold. I was told to put my jacket on by a member of staff, which had an extremely rude tone to it , and also why would I want to sit and eat a meal with my jacket on? She said if we don’t want to be cold, we can go eat elsewhere and gave us 5 minutes decide whether we wanted to order food. By the time They brought our drinks over, we said we were going to leave, they asked us to pay for our drinks that we hadn’t touched, we declined due to the staff failing to accommodate to us and being rude. The fact they would rather us leave than simply close the door or move us to a different table is disgusting and I felt that because I am a young person, they felt like they could belittle me. This is a real shame as the food and drinks here are really nice, but I’m not going to give my money to a restaurant who only accommodate to their staffs needs and not the customers. They could’ve easily shut the door or moved us out of line with the door, absolutely ridiculous and awful service."

"I recently went back to my favorite restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a friend. We started with the smoked salmon appetizer, followed by a delicious steak diane and a huge rump steak. The highlight was the amazing pfeffersteak that was so tender, my knife cut through it effortlessly. The restaurant displays their price menus and opening hours at the entrance on Whitefriargate. The friendly atmosphere and good food make this restaurant a must-visit. The silver service adds a personal touch to the dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic meal."

"The cocktails at this restaurant are amazing, both from their classic and seasonal menus. I highly recommend trying the Penicillin and the amaretto and cherry sour. The servers are friendly and well-informed, and the small details like providing water and the personalized touches on the drinks, such as a birthday cake cocktail with a personalized card, really make this place stand out. I will definitely be returning, I absolutely loved it."

"Firstly this is not something that I would normally do, but was just so incredibly disappointed by our experience tonight 27/10/23. Took mum for a birthday meal(85), she loves it here, but the restaurant was absolutely freezing. If we wouldn't have had our outdoor coats in the car, there would have no way we could have stayed with mum. All the customers were complaining how cold it was with the poor waitress having to constantly apologise. One couple had managed to requisition a small heater from somewhere and had it plugged in near their table. The food was lovely, as always, but very quickly became cold before we could finish it. I felt so sorry for my mum, as she kept apologising for asking to go there,. As i say, food was good but evening just ruined by lack of heating."

"Booked a table for 8 originally but increased to 10 for my mother in laws birthday today at 2pm . We even popped in to pay a deposit and ask if we needed to preorder . Because he recognised us told us not worry about either we regularly visit 3/4 times a year as a large family and then also as couples and smaller groups at other times . Received a call today to preorder food and told to use Facebook menus . Which we all did . 7 of us choose the set menu on your facebook page with a glass of wine . When been asked for our drinks order we asked for our glass of wine on set menu . To be told that menu was no longer available and the wine would not be honoured even after showing the only set menu on your Facebook page has a glass of wine and included and is still online after our complaint (see picture) If some of us had known this we would of chosen off main menu . If it hadn’t been my mother in laws choice of restaurant for her birthday, I think we would of left . The food was nice, but no draught beer , card machine not going only excepting cash or bank transfer . Really disappointed and dont think we will be returning ."

"I typically don't write reviews, whether positive or negative, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts after our visit today. This was our second time dining at Larkin's for Sunday lunch, and it was easily the best meal we've had in a long time. The beef was cooked perfectly, with the chef serving us two generous slices. The entire meal was delicious, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was bustling but well-organized and clean. It was a truly enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back soon to try the lamb. Well done to everyone at Larkin's!"

"Really disappointing as Italian is my favourite food yet everything was off with this place. The carbonara is vile and I’m not been rude, Rick hard panchetta, not fresh, too flavoursome too, over powering flavour. The staff let this place down, the waitresses kept bringing things and walking away before we had chance to ask for anything, this happened 3 times. They even ignored me when I said excuse me, which annoyed me. Looked like they were also talking about us from the bar. Not very professional atall. My eyes were stinging from the fumes in the kitchen and we had a window table. All in all not happy for the price of the menu and the poor customer service. I received better service at McDonald’s yesterday then here. If you’re looking for a dining experience avoid this place."

"We booked a table for Saturday tea time for 7 people, and the booking stated that one of the guests would be an 18 month old which would need a high chair. We went to the bar to tell them we were here for a booking and when we shown our table we were seated at one of the two high tables in the whole place. There was no high chair set at the table, so I asked for this and they brought the usual wooden pub highchair over, but if my daughter sat at this at the table her head would be under the table, how were we supposed to have a meal with her like this? We asked if we could be moved to a low table, which there was a large one to seat all 7 of us at where there was one man having a beer, and the next booking for that table was 2 hours later, so we would be gone before the next booking. The bar staff said that he couldn't ask the man to swap tables, unsure why, and the only solutions he had was for us to sit at a table for 4 (way too small and cramped for our party size) or for him to swap one of the high tables for a low table, so we opted for this. However, because the high tables were up against a bench seat it then meant that my husband had to be wedged in behind the table so that there was enough space for me to sit down and not be bumping in to the table behind me. It also meant that we couldn't really speak with the other members of our party as they were sat a good foot above us. Safe to say, I will not be recommending to any of my friends, especially ones with children, and we will look for an alternative next time we visit the area."

"Visiting Hull for the first time. Fancied a Thai meal. Booked but found the place virtually empty at 7.30 on a Friday night not a good sign. Ordered the set meal for 2. Waited over half an hour for food good sign I thought obviously freshly prepared. Whilst we waited the bin from the kitchen which was full was wheeled through the restaurant. Then once emptied wheeled back through. Prawn crackers eventually arrived looked like a whole meal version not great. Eventually the starters arrived. Pork skewers which looked like a piece of bacon on a skewer one of which was stone cold. A Thai fish cake which was like a piece of rubber with no flavour. Prawn toast without a hint of prawn. Thank goodness for the peanut sauce which made the tasteless rubbish edible. The mains arrived. The first dish was bland and watery. The next two had a little taste but not great. My partner said the food has made me grumpy that has never happened. Paid quickly and left feeling sick. Headed to Tesco for chocolate. Do not waste your money."

"six of us went to a weekend again and couldn't have been happier with this fund. two of us are veggie, and all six of us strip out, singing the lobe of this great little caffe. "After a football match, four of us found ourselves wanting a bite to eat, and we decided on this restaurant because we had enjoyed it in the past and were never let down. I had honestly forgotten just how exceptional this place is. We didn’t have a reservation, but since it was early, we were seated right away. We quickly ordered some cold, reasonably-priced bottled beer, then turned our attention to the menu. Though the menu isn't extensive, that's part of its charm. It features a handful of starters, several classic French dishes, burgers, as well as savory and sweet crepes, ensuring there's something for everyone. We ended up ordering beef bourguignon, beef stroganoff, a Cajun chicken burger, and a cheeseburger. Everything was freshly prepared in the open kitchen and served to us piping hot. Within 15 minutes, our plates were wiped clean—there wasn’t a single thing to complain about. We will definitely be returning!"

"Yesterday we went to RJs. We ordered one warm chocolate, one latte, and two small toasted tea cakes. It used to cost less than ten pounds, which was decent value. However, now it is a steep £11.70. We used to go to this restaurant every time we were in town, but after this price hike, we will not be returning. The owners made a big mistake with this increase, as prices are already expensive. It is unlikely that they will survive much longer with such high prices. Good luck to them."

"I would like to give a 1 star review but in an effort to be fair and balanced I’ll go with 2. On a trip to Hull for some rare family time we decided upon this place for tea. All fine to begin with, our drinks were ordered and delivered quite quickly. We then waited 30 minutes for our food order to be taken. We ordered a ‘large’ bowl of nachos to share as a starter, they were tasty enough and came to the table after around 10 minutes. We sat...and sat, watching other tables around us being served with their food, then finishing it, despite having arrived after us. After around 40 minutes from placing our order, I asked the girl who had seated us Paris where our food was. She told me it hadn’t been long and we’d had a starter, before inexplicably going to get the ticket to demonstrate we’d waited 38 minutes and not 40, before scurrying away. Her attitude was incredibly terse and, frankly, crass. Our food arrived just as she left us at the table. All in all from walking in to being served mains, was 1 hour and 10 minutes. My vegan burger, with its promise of pickled ribbon salad looked extremely sorry for itself and was as dry as sticks. I sent it back and was asked by another, much more polite waitress, if I would like another plate. I thought it was probably quite pointless and asked for it to be removed from the bill. The meaty stuff my brother and partner had looked good and they reluctantly continued their meals at my insistence. We paid the £38.45 for a drink each, a small “large”!!! serving of nachos and 2 mains, one of our group having now not eaten. I spoke to Paris on the way out of the restaurant, to air my thoughts that she had spoken to me with a terrible attitude, and my disappointment as to the quality of the vegan option I chose. She was extremely argumentative, denying having been rude and clearly couldn’t bring herself to apologise for her behaviour. Suffice to say I wouldn’t touch this place with a barge pole."

"My friend suggested we try here for a belated birthday meal for her. I must admit I'd never heard of it before but I'll definitely be recommending now. Booking was super easy. On arrival we were taken to the upstairs room which had about 4 tables in it. It's a small pub but nice and intimate if that's the sort of thing you're after. The table was nicely set and had a candle in a Whitley and Neil gin bottle. The waitress took our drinks order and came back with a fruity gin and two fruity ciders for us with the extra touch of little berries in the glass with the ice. She also asked if we'd like water for the table. She gave us enough time to study the menu and then took our food order. I ordered a started but to be eaten as a main with my mum and friend's main meals and this was no problem. While we were waiting she also brought us some hot, fresh bread which was AMAZING! We had the upstairs room to ourselves for a while so could chat easily. I ordered the scallops for starter which I've never had before but which were really tasty. My mum had the pork belly and my friend ordered the hake. They both said how delicious the food was. The portion sizes were spot on too and the food was steaming hot. We made sure to save room for dessert. I ordered the dark chocolate fondant, my mum ordered the lemon meringue arancini and my friend the sticky toffee pudding. Again all were absolutely stunning in both looks and taste. The waitress checked on us at regular intervals to make sure we were enjoying the food and ok for drinks etc. By this time we had been joined by a few other groups but the atmosphere was still nice and comfortable. The waitress brought us the bill and we managed to sneakily treat my friend as she was trying to pay too but we told her it was a special birthday treat. The staff were so friendly and chatty and even wished my friend a happy birthday and hoped we enjoyed the rest of our evening. The whole experience was one of the nicest I've had in a long time. The food is a little more expensive than you might pay in some places but the quality of the food matches the price. It's a lovely place to go for a special meal. Nothing was too much trouble. I'll definitely recommend the Old House and may well return to celebrate a special occasion in the future sometime. Hats off to the chefs and the waiting staff. They're absolute gems."

"This place is absolutely wonderful. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, there is such a pleasant atmosphere. We found this place looking for other places that make dim sum in the area and we are so glad that we did as our new favorite place has become. The waiter is really friendly and accessible, they are so attentive and so are the owners. They can say they care a lot about their customers and their food. The dimming drum is freshly made on site by an extremely experienced dimming hot chef who is to live from london. It's hands down what I tried. We were hesitant as it is located near the bev road crossing, but there is a large parking lot behind, accessible from the side street on the bev road and there are always many places. No time limit and no parking restrictions. It is such a simple place to get and it is really a beautiful experience. The food is fantastic and the prices are really reasonable. Defines the best place to eat in shell. We come back as often as possible."

"group of four of us went to eat to christmas eve was the meal absolutely perfect. the restaurant itself is really smart, the staff is really helpful and eating was delicious. there was nothing vegan on the menu, but they were more than happy to start me and porn that both were so delicious. they said the cook likes a challenge and was really ready to meet my requirements. everyone loved her eating and we will definitely go back!"
