"We have been eating at this restaurant for a number of years and it’s such a great find. We are a half Persian family and so grew up with Persian stews and kebabs eaten both at home or in restaurants in London and of all the Persian restaurants we’d tried, the kebabs and hospitality at this place are the best. No ifs, no buts. It really feels like we’re eating at a friends house because there’s so much care and attention in both the food and the service. It tastes just like my aunty’s delicious food when she visited from Iran I’m baffled that others can say it’s not authentic on here when they’ve not grown up with Iranian food.Last night I brought some friends to try, many had never tried Persian food before and were blown away. The only disappointment was that they couldn’t finish their plates because they’d ate too much of the starters (not a bad problem to have! All of the food was delicious from the kashke badamjan to the joojeh kebab koobideh. Each time we visit, Ali always says to call in advance if there’s any items not on the menu we’d like them to cook you just don’t get that level of attention at other places.Thank you for hosting my friends and I last night and every other time we’ve been to your restaurant with family friends. We drive an hour each time from Maidstone/the Isle of Sheppey to come and we wouldn’t bother making the trip if it wasn’t worth it each time. Keep doing what you’re doing.Looking forward to seeing you all again next time I think we’re planning a trip next for my brother’s birthday in November and probably a few more in between to get our Persian fix!Ian Hajyzamanali"

"our oldest daughter had eaten here before and enjoyed eating. modern european with a Caribbean swirl is a good overall description of the menu and the aromen and ingredients of the dishes I ordered, certainly boring. the salt fish and akee starters were light, tender and pretty with a good amount of taste. followed the spicy bark with garlic and broccoli strands. there was in my view exactly the right amount of heat that tasted the palette antique and the flesh in the mouth in a wonderful sauce. the maische was well made, but I would personally welcome more garlic and the broccoli was cooked directly with a small amount of bite. a large selection of dressed, my wife enjoyed the same main before the suppe of the day, flower cauliflower and kumin, that was silky smooth and lightly seasoned and my daughter did not lack for food, though vegan. after their appetizer the curtain followed a herbal curry with the same garlic mash instead of the rice. both set menus that are good for 2/3 dishes, and al a carter are available along with a good selection of wines and cocktails. I loved the ambiente, comfortable chairs, reasonable but inconspicuous music and attentive staff. we will come back when we visit margate."

"We were staying at the adjacent Premier Inn and had booked a meal package where you get a 2 course dinner and a breakfast for £25 per person. Upon arrival I overheard a member of staff saying that they were only going to serve people who had a meal package because they were running out of food considering it was only 8pm on a Friday, I thought this was odd. The menu itself is fine IF you are a meat eater, and do not have any food allergies! I have to follow a Gluten Free diet and was given a really small menu with very limited choices, and as I am also a Vegetarian this left me with one option, which I was then told wasn't available. (Two other dishes our group ordered also weren't available. The staff were very embarrassed and apologetic, they scoured the ingredients list to see if they could offer any alternative but the only option for me was a bowl of Tomato Soup not ideal. The staff were doing all they could to accommodate, Izzy in particular was brilliant, but with limited supplies and restricted menu's, I expected more from such a well established corporation and won't be rushing back anytime soon."

"Have eaten here many time because I like the way the chef combines unusual flavours with a Spanish twist. However, I doubt I will be returning. The reason is, when I returned the Gambas Rojas because the stench of 'gone off ' prawns was so strong (and baring in mind prawns are my favourite dish and I 've eaten them in every way, in many places so I 'd like to think I wasn 't a fussy prawn customer), the staff couldn 't care less. I spoke to 2 waitresses about the fact I was unable to eat the very expensive dish and both gave a very unresponsive reply that said they couldn 't care less and neither would the chef, just give us your money and go. Not once did they offer the chef to make an alternative dish or anything. It felt like I was part of the fast show! Just pay the bill and clear the table for the next person."

"Very slow service. Very limited menu. Poor value for money. We ordered bread and olives for the table. We received a small bowl of olives, three slices of sourdough bread (for 4 diners? and some flavoured butter no plates or butter knives. The menu had recently changed and was more limited than the summer menu. The only vegetarian main dish was unavailable, as it had apparently not been prepped. The chicken and leek pie had been heavily flavoured with a herb (tarragon? which was not mentioned on the menu, and which gave it a very strong liquorice/aniseed flavour. The pie itself was very big, and generously filled, but very much more leek than chicken, and the chicken appeared to be thigh rather than breast meat. The haddock and chips was generous, but the skin had been left on the fish. The single dessert ordered (rice pudding had an excessive amount of topping which overpowered the flavour of the rice. Service took so long that we were at our table for well over two hours."

"My family and I visited Caption Digby for a birthday celebration on a Sunday and had an excellent experience. The service was exceptional with all staff being friendly, patient, and accommodating. They were very attentive to our younger family member who has allergies, ensuring that their needs were met and providing safe options. The bar staff were also great and the food was delicious. We often choose this restaurant for family gatherings because of the fantastic soft play area for the kids to enjoy while we wait. Overall, we have always had positive experiences here. Tracey and her team provided excellent customer service, always greeting us with a smile and being helpful. The food was worth every penny. I highly recommend this restaurant for family events, especially if you have young children. A special thank you to Tracey for rewarding the kids with chocolate after they cleaned up the soft play area. They loved it!"
"after a beautiful morning walk by broadstairs, very impressed by the fantastic quality eating, cheap trips and of course brian and angela are the perfect host. highly recommended"

"Afternoon Tea for fourYou had to order at reception and pay before you were seated so didn't realise until when we got into the dining area that it was completely empty. No one was even having lunch. We were served one sandwich each with the crusts cut off so the sandwiches were tiny. There were 4 pieces of chocolate cake which was overly sweet and very dry and also 4 small pieces of lemon cake. The scones were freshly cooked and lovely however only one pot of jam and a small basket of crisps to share between four of us. All in all not worth the money. This is worst afternoon tea we have ever had! The worst part of all was my friend went to reception (as there were no staff about) to ask for more tea and was charged for it! Absolute rip off don't go there. Have had better hot lunches for half the price at better places. Drab and dreary decor but big canvas print of owner in her younger years in dining hall??"

"My son is 15 and just learning the joys of Chinese Take away, but having been to China, I keep saying to him... no, this isn't it. He says, but this is nice, and say no, its samey and slopey and not fresh and then we found The New China Inn and now he knows. Lovely big juicy prawns, sticky ribs obviously from the butchers not from a packet, sauce that is homemade, asparagus, non greasy noodles, lovely crispy duck, it was just lovely. I knew we were on to a winner when they said, of our order for the two of us, that is quite a large order, it might take a while, because that meant they were making it fresh and when it came, it really was SO fresh. That was not defrost microwave, grease ball and I can see that from the next day because the left overs in the fridge are not fatty goo, they are still healthy lovely homecooked food. It was also less cost than other places we have been . From one parent to another. I truly recommend this. What I would say is a) crispy seaweed was too sweet and b) get yourself some biodegradable eco friendly packaging and thats it.. you WIN, you're the best in town. x"

"I have dined at this restaurant twice now, once for Sunday roast and again tonight. The Sunday roast was amazing with plenty of roast pork, delicious pork crackling, Yorkshire pudding, and excellent roast potatoes. All the vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly. Tonight I had the liver, onions, and bacon dish which was superb and very filling. My wife ordered the scampi and chips, which was also excellent, and my daughter had the lasagna which was superb as well. They have a great selection of beer at reasonable prices. Overall, a fantastic dining experience!"

"We popped in for a cup of tea and decided to stay for Sunday Lunch. We are really happy we did, the food was lovely. We both had a Sunday Roast Beef Lunch, which was served piping hot, with plenty of meat, gravy and vegetables, my husband also had a dessert Apple Crumble with Custard which was also very good. It has been a few years since we last dined here, the Hotel Restaurant has now been completely refurbished to a very good standard The Restaurant was spotlessly clean, also the toilets are now updated, very clean and very much improved since our last visit. On arrival we had a friendly greeting from Grahame who was working in the San Clu Reception. Zoe was our waitress, she was a breath of fresh air, cheerful, friendly, happy to help, she answered all our questions re our food orders, and she even sang a little song as she disappeared into the kitchen. After todays visit we would be happy to recommend the San Clu Restaurant to our friends family, we fully intend to return in the near future."

"We have been coming here for 5 years, and the experience is always terrific. You feel like you are hosted by a friend, and the food is fantastic. The service is attentive and timely, and Michael runs the place smoothly. His team is superb as well. Foodwise, good portions of lovely made classics, tom yum, tom kha, pad thai, seafood hotpot, etc. Dishes can be spiced up if requested. Good selection of beers , wines, etc. On a summer evening when still light at 9pm it is just lovely to have dinner outside, overlooking the harbour."

"Had a table with a view of an amazing sunset over Margate harbour arm. Not much ambiance in the restaurant as only 2 tables were occupied. Our waiter was very obliging and patient. Starters were tasty. My mains rack of lamb was perfectly cooked as the chef really listened to how I wanted it cooked. My husbands baked aubergines were under cooked unfortunately. Desserts were delicious. Strange that there was no fish on the menu, and the wine list was quite limited. However, will definitely return and will recommend to friends."

"After a dazzling afternoon of sunshine in glorious Margate, we completely lucked out by bagging a table at this exceptional restaurant in Margate's old town. The menu had plenty of fish and meat/poultry dishes, with mussels in a mildly spiced curry suitably impressing my partner,...while I chose the vegetarian main of roasted vegetable linguine. Both main courses were absolutely delicious, provoking plenty of comments to each other on quite how good the food was. Despite the generosity of the mains, we couldn't resist ordering desserts a great cheese platter and a light and delicate apple tart with ice cream. I made the mistake of offering some of the apple tart to my other half, and promptly watched it disappear! The decor and atmosphere in this laid back restaurant, along with the friendly welcome, made for a superb evening. We will certainly be back!"

"Very disappointed after many decades of my extended family and I having been loyal customers, we have been treated disrespectfully by the staff. We started a new pool team this season after previously having a team there. The table is basically unusable due to its condition and I had to take my own pool balls! We were promised this would be sorted before the league started, but nothing has been done two months in, we were just fobbed off with excuses! The other teams were complaining about the table. To cap it all off the darts night clashes with the pool matches and the darts board is in the area needed to play pool. I spoke the interim landlady to try and get it sorted out and she was extremely rude and told us to leave. No wonder so many pubs are closing with attitudes like this! Such a shame that what was once a lovely family pub has been allowed to go downhill so rapidly. They have lost a lot of what were once loyal customers who would have spent a lot of money in there on a weekly basis!"

"What an absolute rip off! Was looking forward to a decent English Breakfast at £18 pounds a pop, over £50 for 2 with tea!!!! How could it be so disappointing? 2x hard eggs 1x under cooked inedible sausage, dry tomato and stale sour dough bread, so over crunchy when toasted. Feel like I have been taken for a fool. I will not be making the same mistake again, and will advise friends to avoid avoid avoid! I don’t normally write reviews, but honestly this dining experience was just unfair."

"I Ordered two breakfasts and two cups of tea. asked if I could have the teas served with the meal as teas go cold if the food service is slow (and it was slow . I was rudely told was told we 're too busy to bring teas to the table At the table there was no place to leave the used tea bags or the used sugar sachets so we had to leave them on the table. The meals were delivered and I 'm not sure how as they are too busy to bring the drinks to the table or (Doh! they could have brought the drinks with the meals. The food was barely acceptable in quality and quantity (the toast was two pieces of warm bread and the service was downright rude. If you want a poor quanlity meal, served by rude and unhelpful staff in a needlessly noisy cafe this is the place for you (NOT ."

"A basic mistake lead to a breakfast not being so good. I ordered a breakfast, and twice asked to swap beans for an extra egg. The counter girl made numerous attempts to translate this to the cook, unfortunately he did not understand. Breakfast did arrive, quite quickly, but without the change asked for. The server left the toast with me,and by the time the new breakfast arrived the toast was cold. This was a basic service error, but cold toast is not acceptable, and due to their lack of language skills I really could not bring myself to complain. Shame,as the quality of the other ingredients, and the preparation would otherwise have resulted in a much higher rating."

"What is the point in having staff when we do all the service? Despite the restaurant-like prices, the service is that of a pub, though you get a more hands on approach in a Weatherspoon’s. You have to go and order your drinks and food yourself at the bar and take them BACK to your table yourself. Be sure not to drop your drinks when going back to your table because they will have you play cleaner as well as waiter. When ordering a jug of water to the table, we asked for glasses to which the server responded “yeah they’re by the bar” and walked off. Were it not for us requesting that (shock horror) the waiter bring the glasses, we would not have got them. As we were the ones waiting for over an hour, it’s no wonder we assumed the role of waiter. No explanation from staff as to the hour wait for our SANDWICH. Not even a gesture of good-will in the form of a complementary drink or even an apology. We shan’t be returning."
