"When we visited this lovely little spot, we had no idea what to expect in the village. We were fortunate enough to come across this restaurant and as we walked past, it looked the most inviting of all we had seen so far. We entered and were greeted by a friendly lady who we believe was working with her son. The Establishment was immaculate. We sat at a comfortable table and opted for the three course menu where we started with seaweed which was wrapped around salmon, in a Japanese style. Our main course is possibly where we made an error and opted for veal cheeks. I did not mind it so much, but my friends did not enjoy it due to the fact consistency and lack of potential flavour . It also looked rather unappetising especially for the female palate. However, the vegetables were gorgeous.Of particular enjoyment was the desert trolley which arrived at our table with a personal explanation. Two of us opted for a beautiful handmade chocolate layered gateau and our friend had a fresh pastry concoction of which words would feel need to name. Our bill amounted to somewhere in the region of €80 and we all agreed it was good value for money albeit we wish we had opted for a different main course. This lay in the fact that the menu was not in English and we were using a mixture of French and English to communicate with the very kind lady. The bathroom was immaculate as was the restaurant overall. In summary, we would recommend a visit to this establishment."

Remember that French cuisine uses parts of animals that the English are not accustomed to. Always well cooked but can be surprising. Caters for special diets well.

We've visited this town often but only tried this restaurant for lunch last time. It was a great choice. Good good, good wine, excellent desert and a lovely atmosphere.

Went back on this visit the place is clean and the decoration was bright and cheerful, we had a starter which was very Good I had a beef terrine with orange and grapefruit great but the main course of duck leg and vegetables was nothing other than brilliant the duck fell off the bone and tasted fantastic best that I've tasted in France well worth a visit

We had dinner here and felt the value was not as good as what is available generally at lunchtime. The starters weren't bad and there was an amazing sweet trolley but the mains let the meal down especially as two of our party had the veal cheeks which were nearly all fat. The waitress was very friendly but ran off her feet serving the whole restaurant on her own. Having read previous reviews we were disappointed. Ver carta

tried to get in this place a couple of years ago but turned away because it was full, this time we booked a table on line in advance and glad we did.we were lookedafter by the friendy front of house lady and the food was superb.the only negative was the price of the wine,it was the most we have ever paid andwas more per bottle than the 3 course meal for 2.if you are in the area treat yourselves, you will not be dissapointed.

We walked slowly up the hill to the restaurant (it was a very hot day). We were a bit early and nearly concluded it was closed. Just in time we were invited to select a table inside or out. We were plied with copious amounts of cold water - very welcome on that day and then we ordered an excellent set menu at 19 euro. All very good and finished off with a fine cheese board. Well done to madame for coping with the debillitating heat and being so welcoming.

We settled in at a sheltered outdoor table for a long lunch. A bottle of perry, interesting starters and traditional French main courses with a twist were followed by the most enormous (and nommy) puds imaginable from 'Le chariot des deserts'.We'd recommend confit de canard with the best Dauphinois potatoes we have ever eaten (and I have eaten a lot of them as they are my favourites) plus the fish (with chorizo) was also rather good. We'd recommend allowing a couple of hours, missing breakfast and settling in for a long natter over great food while absorbing the ambience of this lovely, medieval town. Ver carta

Domfront is an unexpectedly interesting Roman town with a most unusual-looking church which is stunning inside. To add to our delight in finding this lovely town today, we came across the Auberge du Grand Gousier. The several tables of jolly French diners drew us in. Usually a good sign if the locals eat there. We were made very welcome, chose the menu du jour and were treated to standards of food and service which we'd have happily paid double for. Good sized portions, a delicious lunch in clean and comfortable surroundings and all for 15 Euro. We plan to visit the Auberge for lunch each time we pass Domfront from now on.

We were on the point of giving up finding a decent restaurant in this sadly neglected town so were delighted when we saw the menu and proper white table cloths and place settings. Well decorated room and tables not too close together either. A traditional French meal brought up to date without the heavy sauces and served elegantly with mini vegetables. My partner was in heaven when he saw the desserts chariot! Good service too although a bit slow to start as lady was on her own , A decent bottle of wine and all for the same price (70€) we paid for some really awful meals elsewhere this trip. A really nice touch was the carafe of Eau municipale which really made us smile! Especially the warni...
