"Although just minutes away from bustling and slightly scruffy Leith Walk, venture to the eastern part of Leith Links and you 'll find a completely different atmosphere. Here, among the gracious pillared houses that line this part of the park, you feel as if you 're in a quiet and genteel suburb. Bijou Bistro, which aptly describes itself as A Local Eatery fits right in here, a cafe/restaurant that is a hub for well to-do mothers with small children in tow calling in for a coffee and a piece of cake during the day, or couples enjoying a self-indulgent brunch at the weekend. There is also a full evening menu, where each dish can be ordered in one of three sizes, bijou , medium, or main, a slightly gimmicky innovation, but one that does allow those with small appetites (or budgets) to try a few different items. The only thing I 've tried so far was the veggie breakfast, which was generous and satisfying, made more enjoyable by the establishment 's laid back vibe, tasteful decoration and large, light windows looking over the Links. This is certainly a nice place, meriting a return visit."

Sweet little cafe, the coffee is as good as to be expected. I've never ate there but it's always got a few different groups of people in during day and night. The staff aim to please and give the same personable service to everybody who visits.

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. All freshly cooked to order and I have to say that the black pudding was excellent really very tasty. It helps that the pot of tea was a generous size too. I'll be visiting again to try some of their lives lunch/evening dishes.

Edinburgh needs more genuinely local eateries. Bijou is a small but friendly cafe off Leith Links. Been around for a few years now and has continued to evolve through a change in management. Good quality basic menu (most dishes in 3 sizes) with some good specials. I like the friendly feel that welcomes you for a coffee or for food. Kids welcome too.

My kids and I have spent an extraordinary about of time in this lovely local cafe so much so it feels like an extension of our kitchen. We tend to use it for breakfast and lunch but know that it does a mean evening meal too. Good breakfast menu with all the classics including as couple of sizes of full Scottish. Lunch feels thoughtful and a cut above standard cafe fare fresh seasonal ingredients, interesting combinations. Occasional storytelling evenings bring a community feel. Ver carta

In November, my fiancé Danny and I stopped in to warm up and get some warm drinks, the macchiato and mocha were delicious! The location is warm and peaceful. Mostly want to give 5 stars for the warm welcome we were given. We bonded over a shared love for the Beatles and shared our spontaneous travel plans and got a whole list of recommendations from one of the lovely ladies that took care of us. I am terrible with names but so grateful for their kindness. It is one of my favorite places we stumbled upon. And I still have this list. Thank you :

On first pass, considering where it is and what the colour scheme is, I thought it was one of these ambiguous media companies. In reality it's a tiny little restaurant, high ceilings don't disguise the fact you could only fit about 2 people inside. Sadly, this is reflected on the menu when there wasn't a huge amount of choice, however I've never had plain potatoes that were as tasty! The service feels personal and the whole place is cosy but it does feel you've just gone round to visit an elderly family member at her home in middle class Kent.

Magnificent meals and evening... The menu, flavours of each meal I loved my grain fed chicken the atmosphere the wine selection, and particularly the warmth and genuine good nature of the owner/ host all led to a five star family dinner. This evenings visit to Bi Jou restaurant has made our visit to Edinburgh. Thank you so much for a brilliant meal and evening. Happy anniversary to this clever owner and his talented staff. Bliss. Affordable bliss at that. And the wine listings, HILARIOUS yet true! Visit for those and the quality of the meals if nothing else. Thanks to Trevor our concierge for his suggestion, ... a superb choice. Ver carta

We were charmed right off our arses by James, a quintessential Scotsman full of sass and eye rolling. Our party had a mushroom gnocchi, steak, and beef nachos. Let me repeat that. In Scotland, at a French bistro, they offered beef nachos. The wine list had wine descriptions that were soft core porn A throbbing purple monster; juicy on the tongue . When James asked where we were from and I said, The States , I was greeted with an eye roll of epic proportions. No shite. We talked about the challenges of driving, which launched him into a story about visiting California and boggling at the drivers of enormous vehicles and their obvious over-compensation. He even suggested a more scenic route fo...

Awww bijou is so... bijou! I see from other reviewers I am not the only one to fall into this trap. However, let me talk more about Bijou than my lack of originality in writing reviews. I've been eyeing up Bijou for so long I was convinced it would close down before I got round to visiting the place. But, happily for me, that wasn't the case, and we were able to take our non hungover behinds there after a wedding in Leith. It's such a pleasant, quiet place, and the waitress who served us was lovely. We had the fry ups (veggie, non veggie) and to be honest, the veggie breakfast wasn't much different from any other breakfast I've had (less oily, mind), but it's hard to vary something when what...
