"the beautiful dame that supported, said it was new in the seasonal menu and although she had not tried it, it described as succulent crispy escape. was very disappointed as...it was not crispy at all, the edges were dry, and would not juicy escape they would expect. after a bit, I have resigned my own meal, my dinner partner suggested that I float as he had ordered the pig, it was trying better than my, but not a big pig fan! I left my dinner, at one point the waitress checked for us, as asked if everything was in order, how obviously my teller was still full of my cute was obviously signed I was done. After she had explained the situation, she asked if there was something else she could bring me, but since we had waited a good mins since the beginning, I did not want to eat alone after they had to cook again, said my eating partner, he could also have mine if he wanted, as it would otherwise go. he ate my dish from the wide dry edges and the not crispy skin, the waitress asked if she could bring me more broth instead, honestly I found that a tad offensive the cure menu prices. we rejected dessert and chose for the cheese platter, cheese was amazing, but I would consider it, the cheese car as a couple were flying on them then fly on them during the conservation. to be honest, after all that I expected some of a accommodation on the last bill, only when I was questioned after the original with the full bill, I was offered free tea/coffee in the lounge when I refused how about a glass wee, hmmm, maybe read the room, I am very disappointed, I paid the full bill and left accommodation, I understand that if on menus place, I do not change anything. I would otherwise suggest to eat elsewhere, I have never spoken with a manager, I would have welcomed this opportunity, so hope I finally get an answer from the team in the restaurant so that I can update this review with a more positive result!"

Had the full tasting menu with matching wines and found it a mixed experience. Some of the dishes were very good while some were a bit disappointing. Staff are excellent but I’m not sure we’d go back

This was a very enjoyable dinner. We opted for the three course a'la carte menu. The food was good, well presented and tasty. For us the desert wasn't the best, but maybe that's our tastes Overall I'd say definitely give them a try, we'll definitely...go back

Very good tasting menu. Opted for the wine pairing which was excellent. Service, as with rest of Hotel was first rate. There is a lot of good food to be had in Ambleside but for a Hotel dining experience this was first rate. As others...have mentioned the Hotel is beautifully decorated and this adds to the dining ambience

A very warm welcome from both the staff and the wonderful log fire. Beautiful period Manor House with beautiful lounge and bar area. After drinks we were led into the elegant dining room. Staff are excellent. Friendly, professional and thoughtful. Delicious food, excellently presented with...flair and more importantly very tasty. If you like a slightly more traditional dining experience then you will love this restaurant. Looking forward to returning.

My husband and I have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants and this is definitely up there. The staff are the correct amount of smart and fun. The interior was lovely. A bit of a dark horse when we approached the building from the outside...(not what I imagined). We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. I wouldn’t have contemplated trying some of the wines given to us but they were matched superbly. Couldn’t have asked for a better night out! Totally recommend

I cannot speak highly enough about this hotel! It was absolutely incredible. Newly (and beautifully) decorated, it was immaculate throughout. The lounges had roaring fires, which made for a relaxing and cosy night in after a day walking the lakes. We visited with our dog,...and it’s the first time we have stayed at a hotel and felt there’s no compromise to be had having him with us. He was treated like a guest, to the extent that when we went for breakfast/dinner a blanket was laid out for him to lay on (there is a separate dining room for dog owners to the guests with dogs. This dining room is of a v high standard you would expect for dining without dogs. The food was absolutely sensational...

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
