"Ordered lamb shepherd's pie from menu and was brought a plate of mince . The menu description said it was lamb mince topped with mashed potato, not a potato in sight when it arrived.! On enquiry with the waiter I was assured this was shepherd's pie. I have made hundreds of shepherd's pies in my 80 years and have never had one without a potato topping, generally browned in the oven on top or put under the grill. To make matters worse the waiters all insisted this was shepherd's pie and on consulting the chef, who never came out to see me, I was told the mashed potato was mixed in with the mince. This is not shepherd's pie, not even the deconstructed ones which still have the potato separate. When I showed one of the waitresses a picture of shepherd's pie she said in a very supercilious tone that the chef certainly knew how to make a shepherd's pie but he clearly did not . If he wanted to change the way it was made , the menu should have said that it was not the usual method. I wouldn't have had it then . I offered to accept it if some chips were served with it but this was completely ignored. The dish was then taken away and after a long wait I was offered an alternative. Note to staff in this situation produce the alternative quickly! I was kept waiting so long that my friend had eaten her meal and her pudding before I got my meal. It was a perfectly good lasagne obviously not made from scratch while I waited. Luckily, the chef stuck to the traditional recipe this time and did not decide to cut up the pasta into small pieces and stir it into the mince!"

Nice table in orangery overlooking the green. Waitress kindly closed sliding doors which cut the noise level down hugely from the other area.

Lovely lunch with my friend didn't want a meal so had soup and sandwiches a new offer on their menu and was lovely. Nice presentation and very filling

Met with friends for lunch. The service we received was very good. The staff were very polite and courteous. The food was good value and tasty, two of us had the special chicken tikka. We didnt feel rushed and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Waited a while to sit. The service was slow. I ordered fish cake from the main menu. Asked what fish it was. Chef said many different fishes, mussels and squid. I had the minisculest part only with a small white fish. Not the £13.95 I paid for it. Had to have a dessert to fill in. I want to come back, but try something else and hope there is enough on the plate for the money.
