"Always wanted to try this place, so gave it a go today. Staff are nice but more interested in talking to there friends, even though they had customers waiting to be served. We sat down and was told someone would come over and take our drinks order, waited ten minutes before she came over. When asked what ales or larger they had on, got told we only have one ale on and one larger on. Drinks then came five minutes later, placed food order as thought it would be a good idea. An hour had passed and we had to chase our food order, got told it will be coming out in five minutes. When the food arrived it wasn’t that warm, but by this time we just ate it. 1, service was poor2, table booked for 13.00, food came out at 14:203, staff only wanted to know you if you’re friends of there, 4, if you’re not in a rush to get served or eat food on time, then you’ll like this slow service5, won’t be trying this place again"

This is a lovely cosy country pub with friendly welcoming staff. The menu comprises locally sourced food and was delicious.

Booked here for a meal but was surprised to be told was only outside seating on arrival. Should have been told at booking. Good job was a warm evening and no rain. Menu little limited and seemed short of many items and some drinks such as coke. Food itself was good.

Only one ale available only one lager available very odd for an Addams pub. Ordered food which took 1 1/4hrs to arrive (only burgers and fish and chips) and no apology given when we chased.3 members of staff for a very busy Sunday which could have been planned better.Bar staffing chatting to people who were clearly their friends and ignoring customers queuing.

We’re staying in Southwold and decided to branch out to go for dinner elsewhere, The Queens Head was recommended on Tripadvisor and we were certainly not disappointed. The service was excellent and the environment was friendly. We had the crispy chilli beef noodles and the stacked burger and we were blown away! When we return to Southwold we will definitely be back for more food! It really is a hidden gem

Visited this picturesque pub for weekday lunch couple of days ago , one of the biggest problems is the only tables are scattered around the garden with brollies as cover . So no cover if the weather turns like it did for us . Ordering not a problem not a lot of choice on menu . Food disappointing and not very hot on arrival especially the hand cut chips that were insipid limp . The biggest problem when coming to pay at front of pub with no cover so standing in lashing rain to pay by card .

We came here for Sunday lunch over the August BH weekend due to COVID precautions only seating outside was available (we could see this from the website but were also told when we phoned to book) but that suited us fine. Pre booking was required and details taken for contact tracing (a big tick for us). Limited menu but the beef roast was incredible. The beef was excellent but the vegetables were the star of the show the most amazing array of veggies were on the plate crispy kale, sliced candy stripe beetroot, roast carrots, roast cauliflower etc. along with the obligatory Yorkshire puddings and roast tatties and gravy Yum! Friendly service all round. Nothing to complain about. Would definit...

"Having been a regular customer for over a decade to The Bell Inn, I was left very underwhelmed this time. Room was lovely and clean as usual, Tom on reception was fab. We chose to dine in the restaurant as normal and booked for 730pm so we had a nice long evening to enjoy eating and drinking. The menu is now very limited compared to previous years, we chose to have 4 starters to share and some rose wine with bread to start. Slight delay on bread, which came crammed on a small plate, which we had to ask for side plates after waiting for the waitress to reappear…the oil and balsamic was awful, there was so much oil chucked in the ramekin we had to ask for another, to pour some off to try and get to the vinegar. Food came out, and was put on table, again had to ask for side plates as we were sharing and still had bread on the other ones. No drinks check. Had to wait at bar to order more. Food was mediocre at best, we both have very good appetites especially after the harbour walk and some wine! but both ended up just picking at it. Ended up going to room with our wine very early, the only other table in the restaurant that was occupied had some sort of problem ordering due to “fryers being turned off” and got sandwiches and chips instead! Slept well as usual. Went for a quick dog walk before breakfast and narrowly avoided being hit by the chef arriving at 845am in the car park. Arrived on time for breakfast at 9am, lovely, lovely waitress served us, ordered full English and pot of tea, partner the same with coffee. Took a sip of the tea and it was barely lukewarm… spoke to waitress who was very apologetic and bought me a fresh one, turns out the rest of the room all had the same problem with tea and coffee as the urn hadn’t been turned on in time see chef comment food came out and was delicious and hot, and top quality as usual, we cleared our plates! Room was spotlessly clean, and the Tyneham hand wash/cream is so good! Overall disappointing as I know how good this place can be, and the first time I’ve ever encountered any problems. As stated before it was not busy in the slightest compared to previous years, so no excuse really. I will return as The Bell holds dear memories for me, I hope next year it will have ironed out these problems and be back to full glory!"
