"First time visiting The Crown at Ampney Brook, drawn in by the location and the style based on the images from the web site. The looks and feel was amazing, unfortunately things started to unravel quickly. There was a wedding on, which we suspected when we really struggled to park, but got parked eventually. Experience tells me we should have just left, but the pictures from inside looked fantastic. We decided to go and have lunch, accepting that the service was going to be impacted. We sat down with the menus we’d been handed and there was some nice sounding found on offer. We waited and waited to give our order, we finally ordered food and then had to ask the waiter to take our drink order as they didn’t bother. We then waited and waited and waited. Eventually some water turned up. We sat chatting and had drank most of the bottle of water when our drinks turned up. After another long wait and several trips to the bathroom, our food turned up. I had ordered Venison cottage pie and my wife had order Chicken Club sandwich. The cottage pie was tasty to be fair, but had hardly any potato on top, which was disappointing, it also came with charred cabbage, which was really nice and added to the dish. The chicken club sandwich came on brioche bread, which completely took over the taste of the sandwich. This too was disappointing. Eventually our plates were cleared and eventually we we asked if we wanted pudding. We had by this pointed accepted that our lunch outting was going to take much longer than expected, we were in for the long haul. Our puddings of Chaux for my wife and sticky toffee pudding finally turned up.and they were fantastic, worth a wait but not as long as we’d had to wait. If the pudding hadn’t of been so good, I would have given 1 star overall, especially given the cost plus there was a 12.5% service charge added, which TBH, I hadn’t noticed until after we’d left I would suggest, if you are going to visit The Crown, go when there’s no wedding on and the car park is empty. My suggestion to The Crown (if they read this), don’t accept table reservations, as you can’t cope with the additional orders. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £70–80 Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Difficult to find parking Parking options: Free parking lot"

"I visit two Chinese takeaways in Cirencester for different dishes and this is one. The parking and access (up a deep step and in through a glass door) are less than ideal, the decor is pretty dreadful and any magazines tend to be tatty and dog-eared. The clientele occasionally a tad more down at heel than it's smarter competitor. The people are kind, when I feel down between the kerb outside and my car in the dark a few years ago and couldn't get up (I wasn't drunk, I have MS) a passerby helped me into my car and the man serving in the takeaway insisted on cooking me a fresh batch of food which he handed to me in the car. Sometimes, as tonight I sent a taxi to collect my food (T4 are helpful for this and it was Lawrence who originally reccomended the place to me many years ago on the strength of it's salt and pepper chicken wings). My favourite dishes here are the salt and pepper King prawns which are fresh and in a light batter. (Though either I was extra hungry or the portion sizes seem to have shrunk a bit. The salt and pepper chicken wings are nice, as is the duck, all the standards are pretty good. Though the choice would be enhanced with a lack of green vegetables, and a drier, more consistant chilli beef on the whole I am happy if not over-awed. The fortune cookie alternative to greasy prawn crackers on request is a nice touch. I generally recommend it and it is reasonably priced with orders fulfilled with care and attention."

"rebooked the garden space in the dormy house during the stay near the fish hotel. the environment was very warm and welcoming, and overall eating was very good. but the service was lacking and made us confused by reconciliation. In view of the thoughtful and extensive weinlist we could see one of our favourite mixes from South Africa on the menu. after ordering, and about 15 minutes later, the server back to say there was a mistake, and they put the wrong varietal on the list and wanted to serve us a completely différent wein from this manufacturer. we ordered another bottle in harmony with the food we ordered. but our appetizers came before our wine. wait another 15 minutes (we are now 30 minutes in our dinner without wine) and the waiter comes with another bottle saying that they have lost our bottle, but for us to drink this while we wait. no explanation and not even the wine she poured. that was the last thing we saw from our waiter, because somehow the room was busy and she took the other guests for the rest of the night. we finally got our wee who was brought to the table without the cork. strange practice to get a restaurant of this caliber. when we finished our dessert, we fought for 20 minutes to get every server to recognize us or to delete our records. So we went to the server station to ask for the bill. we have observed our server work at least seven different tabs before we had to go up a second time. when the bill came, the server did not even ask us how our dinner was. we gave our credit card and the other server took it away. she returned 10 minutes later to say that she lost the connection. she gave us the card back and canceled the processing statement and said she couldn't charge our card. she did not know what to do and asked if we were with him at the reception (even if we were not guests of the hotel) will not return."
