"First time visiting The Crown at Ampney Brook, drawn in by the location and the style based on the images from the web site. The looks and feel was amazing, unfortunately things started to unravel quickly. There was a wedding on, which we suspected when we really struggled to park, but got parked eventually. Experience tells me we should have just left, but the pictures from inside looked fantastic. We decided to go and have lunch, accepting that the service was going to be impacted. We sat down with the menus we’d been handed and there was some nice sounding found on offer. We waited and waited to give our order, we finally ordered food and then had to ask the waiter to take our drink order as they didn’t bother. We then waited and waited and waited. Eventually some water turned up. We sat chatting and had drank most of the bottle of water when our drinks turned up. After another long wait and several trips to the bathroom, our food turned up. I had ordered Venison cottage pie and my wife had order Chicken Club sandwich. The cottage pie was tasty to be fair, but had hardly any potato on top, which was disappointing, it also came with charred cabbage, which was really nice and added to the dish. The chicken club sandwich came on brioche bread, which completely took over the taste of the sandwich. This too was disappointing. Eventually our plates were cleared and eventually we we asked if we wanted pudding. We had by this pointed accepted that our lunch outting was going to take much longer than expected, we were in for the long haul. Our puddings of Chaux for my wife and sticky toffee pudding finally turned up.and they were fantastic, worth a wait but not as long as we’d had to wait. If the pudding hadn’t of been so good, I would have given 1 star overall, especially given the cost plus there was a 12.5% service charge added, which TBH, I hadn’t noticed until after we’d left I would suggest, if you are going to visit The Crown, go when there’s no wedding on and the car park is empty. My suggestion to The Crown (if they read this), don’t accept table reservations, as you can’t cope with the additional orders. "I can't recommend the Star Bistro highly enough. Wonderful setting, doggy friendly minutes from Barbers Wood, delicious home cooked fresh food, prepared by the students of Star College, very reasonably priced. Brilliant concept and well worth the drive from the Bath Rd especially if you combine it with a dog walk."

"Omg the food was AMAZING brought my mom and niece and we was just two minutes before Kitchen was going to close I called them and they said just quickly come inside an order. Best decision I ever made. The food was out of this world. Tania and Bee and the bar are so friendly and welcoming and warm and accommodated for everything that we could’ve asked, for. They could tell that we were not from Loco and continued to come and ask us if we were okay if we needed anything, and to be honest, I’m pinning this location in my phone and we’ll definitely return. Thank you all. :"

"Came here for our anniversary which we advised about when booking although the food was not bad and plentiful we felt very rushed in and out within an hour not really how we wanted to spend an anniversary meal the service was not great we was trying to speak to our waitress who just nodded each time but surprisingly when it came to the bill she was able to tell us service was not included!! But rude !! A bit disappointed as wanted to make this a bit special they did not it’s fine if you want to be in an out quickly though. And we did leave a tip!’"

"I don't write many reviews but this was a must. I have been to this cafe a number of times and never had a problem but this time was horrendous. The cafe was suffering a wasp infestation but as we arrived the staff were just opening the door so we decided to stay. As our food arrived we were swamped by wasps wanting our sweet waffles and milkshakes. My children were crying and our food crawling with wasps. I asked the staff for a fly hitter or what could they do, they replied there was nothing they could do. I had to leave our food to move away with my children resulting in me feeding my two year old stood up as she had a savoury waffle I asked the staff again what could they do and again no help was given from them, so they were happy for my children to be crying, our food being attacked by wasps and them having a cigarette break outside. We were offered take away boxes so I did take what I could with me but not a lot of our food as it had wasps on it. We spent nearly £60 in the cafe and i felt they didn’t care about their service one bit or grateful at all we took our custom there. My children being upset is not how I want to spend a treat day with them and no apology from the staff means I won’t be going again! I know wasps aren’t all year round but I would of thought they would of had a precaution for this type of thing considering it’s not their first year as a business and most of their waffles are sweet, they sell ice cream and milkshake!"

"The food we had in this Cafe was certainly not up to the high quality standard that we thought Hoburne would be. The omelette was cold and dry after a long wait for it to arrive, and the so called parmentier potatoes were just pieces of plain deep fried potato, no seasoning at all, and the fish and chips we had, plus other cooked breakfast purchased during the week we were there, was equally as bad and of poor quality, not happy!"

"We were shown to a table and then ignored so we decided to order online. We then waited some time for our starters. When the starters arrived I mentioned that we still had no drinks. We finished our starters and when the plates were cleared I again asked for our drinks. These did eventually arrive and were removed from the bill. During the long wait for our main course a member of staff asked if we wanted to order anything else not realising we were still waiting for our main. Whilst we were there a couple were sat at a table and given menus but walked out without ordering. Another group had to go and find a member of staff to take their order. The food was very average and overpriced for what it was and the decor very tired. AVOID!"

"Visited the Ebrington Arms many years ago and was impressed. I'm please to report nothing has changed. It's a charming pub in the Cotswolds that serves great food but it still a pub, with a welcoming pub atmosphere and good beer. They also accommodated my son's food allergies with no fuss something that often makes eating out as a family problematic. Highly recommended."

"we stumbled over this pub during the trip to alton for a long weekend. what a great pub with a nice friendly atmosphere. very clean and the staff very helpful. we had to start the best we ever had, we had to love garlauchbrot) our meals were delicious, especially my gammon. the children enjoyed their meal mainly the cheeseburger without cheese ha ha) and the children blument pots. would definitely recommend this place for a visit. it also offers a 10% discount with a blue light card. well done and thanks."

"It took over 20 minutes to get our coffees (two americanos) even though the cafe was virtually empty. When it finally arrived, one of the americanos had bizarrely been whipped into a six inch cup of foam with only a splash of liquid left at the bottom. We thought the waitress had brought the wrong drink. When we said it was wrong she answered “I don’t know, I’m not on the drinks” and just walked away. We decided to leave without ordering food and then she couldn’t work the card machine kept typing in the wrong amount and having to start the transaction over. Just generally hapless and poor service."

"As we were staying in the village me and the wife went in for a quick beer .. the bar man was fantastic . So decided to have something to eat. .. we stayed in the bar as the atmosphere was great . We ended up having two fantastic meals . Very well priced . I had the fish and chips. And the wife had toad in the hole ... Her Yorkshire puddings was the size of the plate fantastic value ... We ended up staying for over 3 hrs considering we were only popping. The staff were great very friendly. We left very happy full and to be honest a bit tipsy .. 10/10."

"I visited this restaurant over the weekend and was craving sticky toffee pudding, but was informed that the kitchen was closed. A young girl with dark hair and glasses, around 4’8 in height, assured me it was okay to place an order. When we received our sticky toffee puddings, all I can say is that they were very tasty. The staff members were incredibly welcoming. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant next year."

"The worst cream tea ever. Around £6.50 per person but made with pre made packet wrapped scones, awful packet processed e number jam, cream and one refill of tea, served in paper cups, with plastic utensils and no plates, not even paper. It’s very shocking that businesses in a prime spot, opposite the waterway, in a tourist haven Cotswold village would demean their business and go for maximum profit without thinking about the customer or long-term viability. I suppose they will always attract customers like me but who won’t return. And this from someone who isn’t a tourist but lives nearby. I dread to think what tourists would think. To top it off, there is a 10% surcharge to eat inside with the sand standard of cutlery and food. If the business excuse is that there was a shortage of anything then the usual price shouldn’t be charged. I’m very annoyed at a time when customers are paying lots to eat and judicious about where they would go out so the least I would think is us not to be taken granted for and for all cafes, restaurants and bars to aim high. Especially for food cafe eateries items that are integral to British culture and what are staple tourist holiday food items."

"How disappointing, we came here expecting a really nice Sunday lunch, we arrived just before 12 noon to ensure that we could get an outside table, as we had heard this this place gets very busy. I had the Roast Beef dinner, everything was Cold, including the Gravy some of the beef was actually chilled, so obviously nothing was freshly cooked. My other half is no so keen on Sunday lunch out, so she had the 'Cod ' Chips. The Chips were fried to a pulp, at least they were hot I suppose. The fish did not taste like cod this had also been fried to an inch of its life. We should have sent the meals back, but as I had already paid for them didn 't see much point.pointed out the issues when waiter came to collect the plate he said he would let the kitchen staff know. Didn 't see he him again after that. We did not have a Desert for 3 reasons. 1. Did not want to line their pockets any further. 2. Nothing on the menu appealed to us, nothing classic like Sticky Toffee pudding or Apple pie etc. 3. Didn 't know what state it would have arrived in likely to be not nice. So after all that, needless to say, we will not be back. Such a shame as a great location."

"While in Moreton for work, I discovered that Raj Mahal was conveniently located near my hotel with a quick Google search. The staff guided me upstairs and despite being busy, I had the option to choose a table. I was promptly given a menu and placed my drink order. There was a slight delay (about 20 minutes) before my food order was taken, but the staff were apologetic as they were clearly busy serving other customers, making drinks, and taking phone orders. The menu offered a variety of delicious options at a reasonable price, and my food arrived hot and tasty. I definitely plan on returning as a customer! After my meal, I was provided with a complimentary hot towel and shot of spirits. The staff was attentive and friendly, and despite their suggestion not to leave a tip because of the delay in taking my food order, I felt that my overall experience deserved one. I highly recommend Raj Mahal for anyone looking for great food in the area."

"My daughter and I visited this pub a few months ago. We had heard that the food could be a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. However on this occasion we had a lovely meal. We met the proprietor who seemed a very pleasant chap. Last Sunday we went for lunch 7 of us. Well. Unfortunately, on this particular day it was definitely a miss. The Turkey was very good, but unfortunately a couple ordered roast beef which was tough and hard to eat. 1 person did not eat her meal at all. Roast potatoes were hard and the roast parsnips done to a crisp. A very tiny sausage in a small piece of bacon and a tiny round ball of stuffing was what constituted the trimmings. My son in law ordered a latte, which was weak watery and undrinkable. My daughter and I ordered Irish coffee which was weak, watery, very sweet and the cream on top had been sprayed out of an aerosol can, it was horrible. When paying the bill I met the proprietor for the first time since the initial occasion when all had been so good. I mentioned how disappointed we were with the meal and what the problems were and I was met with complete indifference, no apology and certainly no refund. Hard to believe that this was the same person! Sometimes it's not what goes wrong it's how things are dealt with when they do go wrong. The waiting staff were lovely and helpful but on the basis of hit and miss, I need to go to a pub where the proprietor actually cares about his customers and is there to put things right if things go wrong? Shall never go back and I live locally."
