"Located in the idyllic hilly setting of acres upon acres of well manicured vines at what is probably Germany's best Staatsweingut (Federal State Winery), Baiken is an absolute treat when the weather is warm enough to sit outside on the terrace and enjoy fabulous cuisine with excellent Baiken Rieslings. I joined two German wine experts on one such warm summer evening, and we were all blown away by the setting, food, wine and the knowledgable and friendly hosts. It was all tip-top: the soup, smoked salmon, pork belly, medallions of venison leg, the desserts. When it was time to choose the second (at last!) bottle of wine for the evening, the staff literally dig a bottle out of the cellar that wasn't on the menu (at our request)- a 1971 Baiken Riesling- and went to the trouble to call the owner at home to get a price and the okay for us to open it. Then my friend had to perform quite the delicate operation (before a steadily growing audience of curious staff members!) to remove the crumbling cork and pour the precious nectar into a decanter. The bottle by the way was very reasonably priced, showed beautifully, and the rest of the menu is an absolute bargain. Overall, I can recommend Baiken with confidence."

We recently ate dinner at Baiken and it was such a great experience. The food and Riesling wine were amazing! My husband had the venison and I had a small ravioli dish with pretzel crumbs; both were equally delicious. The restaurant is situated on top...More

Visited the restaurant with work colleagues. Due to the number of us we had a set menu in a private room. Service was swift and accompanied by excellent wine from the vineyard. Food was good quality and hot with swift service which is not always easy with so many people. Good choice!

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Gutsausschank im Baiken. There is an outdoor patio and a covered patio, where we sat. The restaurant is nestled in the vineyards and has beautiful views. The food was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly, we felt very welcome. It is a bit outside the town of Eltville. Ver carta

We visit Baiken whenever we have company...and recommend it to visitors and locals! Wonderful views out over the vineyards...fresh produce and perfectly cooked pork cutlet (actually more of a chop). The staff is wonderful and several times we have tasted several of the wines before deciding on our bottle (s). Our German skills are not always up to translating the whole menu but there is always someone there to help...

We visited this restaurant a few years ago, and looked forward to another visit. I wish we'd returned sooner, but "better late than never". We tried to make a reservation but the book was full. However, we were told that if we arrived for an early dinner, we'd be seated. In fact, once we arrived we were told "take your time, the other party is delayed". We enjoyed an excellent meal, excellent wine, and excellent service. All in a location literally in the middle of a vineyard, overlooking the Rhine. We'll be back, having booked our reservation earlier.

Baiken has a stunning location amid one of the most famous vineyards of the region.A visit is by itself something special. When however one is visiting on two consecutive days to have exactly the same menu for lunch, as I did, this means there's something really special about it: it's their food! It's absolutely stunning! I can't think of a better place to have down-to-earth German food of the highest quality, with zero pretension. The whole experience comes wrapped in a warm and friendly smile by every team member...and it's not even expensive.Like I said: the same menu on two consecutive days - first time in my whole life :-) Ver carta

This was my second visit to this restaurant. The first time around we attended an event and the food and service was great. This time around we came with family for dinner whilst touring though the region.Unfortunately, our experience couldn't have been any more different compared to our first one.The service was slow, I felt that we were more an inconvenience than appreciated. The food was okay, but the portions were small and some of it wasn't even cooked properly. The shame thing about it all is that the estuarine was even full or overly busy.I certainly won't be coming back for a while but might give it a try after a while again to give it one more chance, given that our first visit was a g...

The location is idyllic, the menu and food delightful, the wine good and affordable, but I couldn't pay for our guests and ourselves because the Baiken does not accept US/Canadian credit cards - so bring cash!! May explain why there were lots of locals here, and very few tourists. This is certainly a locals' secret, as it is in a tiny town (Eltville am Rhein), up the hill at the edge of a large vineyard, in the Rhine Valley near Ruedesheim. The food is very classic German, and well prepared. Two of us had the veal shanks with chanterrelles and a demi-glace. Another had a pork cutlet, with spaetzle. The wait staff was most accommodating, allowing us to switch veggies, etc. We shared a cheese...

Wolfi Klein"
